Match report
The Madness of King George is a 1994 film directed by Nicholas Hytner and adapted by Alan Bennett from his own play, The Madness of George III. It tells the true story of George III's deteriorating mental health, and his equally declining relationship with his son, the Prince of Wales, particularly focusing on the period around the Regency Crisis of 1788. Modern medicine has suggested that the King's symptoms were the result of porphyria.
The Madness of the Phoenix was on show here and pray this the last that we see of it. But how, pray tell, do I describe how the events of the day unfolded? With the game on the verge of cancellation due to the lack of numbers, Imran rallied his vast array of kinship like how in Lord of the Rings, Saruman chopped down the trees of Isengard to create his army of Orcs.
Nonetheless uglier, Phoenix went to do battle with the Bank of England. A hot day welcomed both teams and Sanj, the stand-in skipper for the day, had no choice but to offer the batting to the opposition first. They took it with gleeful abandonment as they punished the Phoenix bowling as they scored two hundred and two runs before declaring their innings. A mention to Adey who made a splendid fifty and Austin who made a quick-fire forty-six but the game could have been different if Phoenix took their chances against these batsman when their scores were in single figures.
So onto the Phoenix innings. After the first two overs Phoenix had scored twenty-six runs but the game was all over as madness prevailed when Phoenix lost four wicket in the third over with atrocious calling & attitude that resulted in the run out of Tushar and even worse shot selection that cost the other three batsman their wickets. Could Phoenix blame deteriorating mental health porphyria for this and thus instead of intense net sessions, the players need treatment at a mental illness clinic
The only beacon to shine was that of Rahul who led the counter attack to salvage some pride as he got rid of any inhibitions and played stroke after stroke after stroke as he made a quite brilliant fifty-four runs which included eleven fours and a six. He managed to swing the pendulum back into Phoenix's favour and at the twenty over mark, Phoenix needed one hundred and twelve runs to win with five wickets remaining.
But at the loss of his wicket, the dream of winning was over and the draw faded away as the defensive block was not in the coaching manuals off most of the remaining batsmen. As in the Lord of the Rings, the Orcs lost the Battle of Helm's Deep and here today Phoenix lost to the ever efficient Bank of England.
Bob produced an excellent display of fast bowling and for this reason he is named Man of the Match.
Well done to Bank of England for being great & humble hosts and saying that 'you enjoy playing us and look forward to our game next season'. As for Phoenix, with all the changes we need to adjust and play like a team.
I can't change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination. To quote Confucius (China's most famous teacher, philosopher, and political theorist, 551-479 BC) “When it is obvious that the goals cannot be reached, don't adjust the goals, adjust the action steps.”
With the passing away of Michael Jackson, I would like to end this piece with a quote from him:
“In a world filled with hate, we must still dare to hope. In a world filled with anger, we must still dare to comfort. In a world filled with despair, we must still dare to dream. And in a world filled with distrust, we must still dare to believe.”
