Halisham v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sun 19 Jul 2009 at 2pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Won 17 runs

Match report So onto the second game of tour which after a mad few days the Phoenix boys were absolutely shattered and were praying for rain. In Aztec religion, the god of rain is Tlaloc and it was a good thing he wasn't listening - maybe were were praying to the wrong deity as the team comprise Catholic's Hindu's, Muslim's & Parsi's.

On a cold and overcast day, Jason who was more ready for bed than a game of cricket lead his war torn Argonauts to Hailsham. On winning won the toss he had no hesitation in electing to bat first to the cheers and joys of the team. Was this a sign of good things to come? With most of the team full to the brim with KFC, Jason opted to open the batting with Ali & Rowdy.

From this point Phoenix never looked back and to quote Jason 'I had this planned from the beginning for I know what I am doing'. Phoenix blasted their way to a very impressive two hundred and sixty four runs off their alloted thirty-five overs with scores from Ali, Rahul and Anup. Ali powered his way to an imperious seventy-two (which included nine fours and four sixes) - this was his maiden fifty for Phoenix, Rahul battered his way to fifty-six (which included seven fours and three sixes) and Anup blasted a quick forty-two (which included six fours and two sixes).

At tea, everyone was shattered but at least we had a good score to defend. For the first time in the history of Phoenix, the two legends Jason & Sanj bowled in tandem. As heavy as their combined weight suggests they went for some heavy punishment as Hailsham scored eighty-fours runs off the first six overs of the innings with Ashley smashing the ball out of the park making sixty-nine in those six overs. Another first was Sanj asking Jason that he had enough and wanting to come off.

Perses was the Titan god of destruction and it seemed that Hailsham had him on their side but along came Anup, with Lord Shiva on his side, as he reaped his own devastating destructive spell on Hailsham. Anup Jhooti is the first cousin to Kamaljit Singh Jhooti better known by his stage name Jay Sean. He overcame Me Against Myself demons and needed to do it My Own Way that would allow his this historic feat come to fruition. He bowled brilliantly as he took seven wickets that ended the run chase and amongst those magnificent seven was his majestic hat-trick. Seven wickets in seven overs is a remarkable feat especially since the Hailsham batsman were going at it hammers and tongs.

Jay Sean has moved to the #5 on iTunes USA chart and continues to climb the US charts with his latest single, "Down" featuring US rap star Lil Wayne but his Lil Cousin Anup the Snoop has also recorded his name in the Phoenix Hall of Fame. Jay Sean when you read this give the Phoenix a shout on your next track - Anup have a word. With a rockstar in the family,

I'll need a credit card that's got no limit,
And a big black jet with a bedroom in it
Gonna join the mile high club
At thirty-seven thousand feet

but baby dont worry, you are my only,
You wont be lonely, even if the sky is falling down,
Youll be my only, no need to worry,
Baby are you down down down down down,
Dowwwnnnnn, Dowwnnnnn,
Baby are you down down down down down,
Downnnnn, Downnnnnn,
Even if the sky is falling down,

Anup produced a match winning bowling display and for this reason he is named Man of the Match. Also a special mention to Rahul & Tushar for passing three hundred runs and to Anup for passing ten wickets for the season thus far.

Well done to Hailsham for being part of a hum-dinger of a game that everyone enjoyed. As for Phoenix, once again our spirit came to fore as we hung on in there where at one stage we were facing the barrel of defeat.

To quote Denis Waitley (American motivational Speaker and Author of self-help books. b.1933) "The results you achieve will be in direct proportion to the effort you apply.”
