Chalfont St Peter v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sun 16 Aug 2009 at 2pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Won 6 wickets
Match report
With Fabian back in charge of his Legions, a sense of 'thank god he's back' was felt across the team as huge sighs of relief were echoed along the A4 Bath Road. Phoenix without a win for a three games needed the big blasting batsman at the top of the innings to provide comfort and confidence to all.
Spanx shapewear also has the slogan 'for comfort and confidence' but this is a Weight Loss Underwear Slimming Miracle product. Talking about underwear, the Pink Chaddi Campaign (Pink Underwear Campaign) is a nonviolent protest movement launched in India in February 2009 in response to notable incidences of violent conservative and right-wing activism against perceived violations of Indian culture, when a group of women were attacked in a pub in Mangalore. Also on a very close tangent the word Chikna means sexy, attractive or appealing - a slang word to describe anything/anybody cool or attractive.
Not to digress and back to the match itself with Fabian leading his legion on a warm and sunny day to the quite lovely ground of Chalfont St Peter. On winning the toss the opposition skipper had no hesitation in batting first. The Chalfont batsman came out out gung-ho (term used to mean "enthusiastic" or "dedicated", sometimes excessively so but please do not confuse with gun-hoe which involves a lady of the night, a gun and karmasutra activities) as they tried to hit everything be it wayward or accurate bowling.
Webb chanced his arm and his luck as he plundered a quick fifty-one runs and at one point Chalfont St Peter were going at six runs per over. In the heat of the moment where missed chances, lowered voices and hanging heads were the norm, up stepped Fabian. This time he worked his magic but with not the bat but with the ball as he span, deceived and out thought the batsmen as he took five of the top seven batsmen. Chalfont St Peter from looking to post a score beyond two hundred runs collapsed to one hundred and thirty five runs all out. At tea, Phoenix just had to bat sensibly and victory would be theirs.
Phoenix came out in a similar fashion to Chalfont St Peter as Fabian hit the boundary with ease but the luck was not running in our favour as the first three wickets went to some good catching as they didn't drop a thing. Phoenix after hitting twenty-five runs off the first three overs then looked in trouble at forty-seven for three off ten overs. As they say catches win matches but this clichéd term was not the order of the day with Nad making a sublime fifty-three runs (which included eight fours) and Raaj a dogged fourteen as they held on strong making a match winning seventy-five run partnership to take Phoenix home. They batted with a matured aggression, like cheddar cheese or a Gouda. A matured cheese is one that has been allowed to age as ageing a cheese helps to enhance the flavour.
Fabian 'Chikna Chaddi Boy' Saverimuttu was in the centre of a Ménage à trois as he was called Chikna with great affection & feeling by Raaj and to everyone's amazement he dropped his trousers, showing his chaddi, to Nad up close & personal. Are these just isolated & innocent coincidences or does the Phoenix rumour mill have something to exaggerate & embellish (to enhance a statement or narrative with fictitious additions)?. Was this the inspiration that Nad & Raaj needed to bat together and take us home to a win?
Nad showed his form as he batted & bowled well and for this reason he is named Man of the Match. Also a special mention to Fabian for passing twenty wickets and to Sanj for passing forty wickets for the season thus far.
Well done to Chalfont St Peter for being tremendous hosts as well as being part of the 'banter' they were subjected to with a smile & returned wit. As for Phoenix we have won at last and lets retain this winning habit and mentality. Excellence is not a singular act, but a habit as we struggled hard at the beginning but came through with a comfortable win.
To quote Jim Rohn (American Speaker and Author. He is famous for motivational audio programs for Business and Life.) “Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.”
