Match report
The sun was shining at last after a very long week in trying to get a side out on this Sunday as today was EID which is celebrated by all our muslim team mates. So firstly EID Mubarak to all.
The French Foreign Legion is a unique unit in the French Army, established in 1831. Every Legionnaire must know by heart the "Legionnaire's Code of Honour". The Legionnaires spend many hours learning it, reciting it, and then getting the vocal synchronisation together:
1. Légionnaire, you are a volunteer serving France with "Honour and Fidelity".
2. Every legionnaire is your brother-in-arms, regardless of his nationality, race, or religion. You will demonstrate this by strict solidarity which must always unite members of the same family.
3. Respect of traditions, devotion to your leaders, discipline and comradeship are your strengths, courage and loyalty your virtues.
4. Proud of your status as Legionnaire, you display this in your uniform, which is always impeccable, your behaviour always dignified but modest, your living quarters always clean.
5. An elite soldier, you will train rigorously, you will maintain your weapon as your most precious possession, you are constantly concerned with your physical form.
6. A mission is sacred, you will carry it out until the end respecting laws, customs of war, international conventions and, if necessary, at a risk of your life.
7. In combat, you will act without passion and without hate, you will respect the vanquished enemy, you will never abandon your dead or wounded, nor surrender your arms.
Fabian took charge of his legion and at the head count it was realised that two of the selected players where AWOL (Absent With Out Leave). The mobile highway was then ping'd with instant calls as the team tried to find to locate the whereabouts of the missing players and also to find replacements.
The conspiracy theories to uncover the a plot to annihilate Vatican City using destructive antimatter (Angels & Demons); to discover the possibility of Jesus Christ of Nazareth having been married to and fathering a child with Mary Magdalene (The Da Vinci Code) and to acquire the knowledge of the Ancient Mysteries are books by Dan Brown.
Robert Langdon who is the main protagonist, that of Harvard Symbologist, of Dan Brown's novels would have found in hard to unravel the mysteries of Phoenix and the reasoning behind the excuses made. The Phoenix Pandora's Box is yet to be decoded and unlocked.
Phoenix had to honour the fixture and thus headed out to Prestcold with nine players. Fabian won the toss and elected to bat first since the only real chance of winning the game was to hit a huge score and thus try & defend.
Fabian and Tushar opened the batting and all seemd to be going well as they amassed seventy-five runs without a scare and a big score seemed to be possible. Fabian batted with his flavour of brutality as he made yet another half century as he hit eleven fours to an effortless fifty-fours runs.
At the loss of his wicket, Phoenix just didnt manage to push on even though the boys did get a start but never converted it into a big score. With only nine batsman, Phoenix managed to score one hundred and fifty nine runs but they knew they were about twenty runs short of a competetive score.
Phoenix came to the field knowing that they had to bowl tighly and field well if they wanted to contain the Prestcold batsman. This they did has everyone fought hard but there were too many gaps in the field which prevented the quick single to be stopped and above all allowed edges & mistimed shots to fall into spaces where there would have been a player.
With darkness falling a late burst of wickets Phoenix gave Prestcold a scare but alas they couldnt manage to sustain the pressure and in the end Prestcold came away with a win. The difference was that of two players who would have made runs with the bat and saved runs in the field.
Tushar with damanged finger and all kept wicket very well and for this reason he is named Man of the Match.
Well done to Prestcold for once again being truly tremendous hosts and for making this game a great occassion as per the pervious games. As for Phoenix, they kept tact their honour as they battled to the very end as shown by the effort & noise that was put in. Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try since success is dependent on effort and thus we are responsible for the effort & not the outcome.
To quote James Allen (New Zealander Statesman. Minister of defense (1912-20), 1855-1942) “In all human affairs there are efforts and there are results, and the strength of the effort is the measure of the result”.
