Phoenix Cricket Club Won 6 wickets
Match report
Where do I start, I had already written the start of a Match Report with the theme of Brothers as Jason was initially playing this game alongside Fabian. This has now to be put aside and resurrected on another day so onto the game at Prestcold.
Fast forwarding. Phoenix came out with all guns blazing as they whistled through Prestcold's top order as they slumped to seventeen for six in just the twelfth over. Hold on a minute here, Is this a flash back or is the 'flash' back or am I just cutting and pasting from the Elite Match Report. Let me start again with a fresh new look on the days activities.
The latest movie of Star Trek saga (the eleventh film of the adventures of the Starfleet team on the USS Enterprise) was released this week. Alas this entire collection of movies has a certain parallel to today's performance as can be seen in the reinactment of the battle between Prestcold and Phoenix.
Film One : The Motion Picture - So to begin at the beginning. Captain Fabian.C.Saverimuttu led his Legion on the HRM Phoenix, to boldly go where we have gone before, to the long and picturesque trip to Binfield Heath via Henley. A hot day welcomed both teams and on winning the toss, the opposition skipper elected to bat first. A tough battle was forseen as Prestcold have had the winning charm over Phoenix for the past few years.
Film Two : The Wrath of Khan - Fabian was not too concerned at bowling first knowing to well the fire power he possessed in his ranks. He decided to uncloak the Phoenix Warbird and unleash his weapons of mass destruction with Shuanak, Sofi & Dinesh firing photon torpedos. Soon after Prestcold were hurt and hurt bad.
Film Three : The Search for Spock - Prestcold at seventeen for six ensured that Fabian's search for victory was in sight. To quote an Ethiopian Proverb, When spider webs unite, they can tie up a lion. Fabian had set his traps and easily caught the Romulans, Klingons & Cardassians of Prestcold.
Film Four : The Voyage Home - Fabian showing mercy cloaked his warbird and allowed everyone to have a fun day out. The jokes and laughter were once again flowing as the team knew that their voyage home will be a winning one.
Film Five : The Final Frontier - Soon enough in the twenty-seventh over Prestcold's Battleship went down and the winning target was just seventy runs.
Film Six : The Undiscovered Country - Phoenix had to bat twelve overs and then it would be time for tea. This they have never experienced before and at tea, with only twenty-four runs needed to win, the cakes tasted sweeter than ever before.
Film Seven : Generations - New faces of all ages have joined the Phoenix this season and new boy Jay (on debut) did not let the team down. He powered his way to an explosive forty-six (which included two fours and four sixes).
Film Eight : First Contact - In the eighteen over Jay hit the winning runs with a mighty six and handshakes & hugs were the order of the day.
Film Nine : Insurrection - In the pub afterwards, the match was deciphered and analysed but regardless of what was said, the conflict was in the end in the control of Phoenix.
Film Ten : Nemesis - In Greek mythology, Nemesis is the goddess of divine retribution and vengeance. The second game versus Prestcold is dated for Sunday 20th September with Andy Rosier (the Prestcold Skipper) promising that victory will be theirs.
Film Eleven : Star Trek - So to end at the ending. Captain Fabian.C.Saverimuttu led his legion to an most impressive of victories and skippered the side with a renewed passion, positivity and above all fun.
Shaunak produced a match winning spell of fast bowling which saw him take four wickets for just seven runs in just six overs and for this reason he is named Man of the Match.
Well done to Prestcold for being great hosts as per the high standards they set and see you in september. As for Phoenix, seems like the fun and laughter has gelled the team into a strong & united unit that produced a performance of the highest order.
To quote Jeff Turner (US basketball player) 'It takes time to gel, no doubt about. You can't come in and plug a hole, you've got work at it'.
