Phoenix Cricket Club Won 63 runs
Match report
Game 20 v Langley Cricket Club!
Win by 63 runs.
In a high-octane contest at Home Park in Windsor, Phoenix emerged victorious over Langley by 63 runs in a thrilling match that saw over 600 runs scored. This was the first encounter between the two sides at this venue, and the match lived up to all expectations, delivering excitement, tension, and record-breaking performances.
Under a scorching sun, Phoenix won the toss and elected to bat on what looked like a batting paradise. The small boundaries and fast outfield promised a big total, and Phoenix did not disappoint, posting a mammoth 343 runs in their allotted 40 overs. This score shattered their previous highest team total of 341, set against Codicote in 2011.
The day belonged to Rajkaran, who was in imperious form. He smashed his way to a breathtaking 156*, retiring not out, off just 90 balls. His innings was a masterclass in power hitting, featuring 21 fours and 7 sixes. In doing so, Rajkaran broke the club record for the highest individual score, surpassing the 151 scored by Fabian Saverimuttu against Pinkneys Green in 2009. Remarkably, this was Rajkaran's second consecutive century, placing him in elite company alongside Lav Kaushik (2012), Kully Banwait (2015), and Jas Ghrial (2018) as players who have achieved back-to-back hundreds for the club.
Rajkaran’s century was his 11th for the club, equalling Kully Banwait's record for the most centuries, and his third of the season. His innings was punctuated by two significant partnerships: a 122-run stand off 16.4 overs with Chohan, who contributed a solid 34, and a blistering 125-run partnership off 9.5 overs with Hardik, who dazzled with a quickfire 60 off just 29 balls, including 3 fours and 7 sixes. Faaris also played his part, scoring a vital 44 off 39 balls, adding to the run feast.
With 343 on the board, Phoenix were confident, but Langley came out with guns blazing. They raced to 150 in just 15 overs, threatening to pull off an extraordinary chase. However, with a daunting target to chase and the pressure mounting, Langley began to falter. The Phoenix bowlers, undeterred by the early onslaught, struck back, taking wickets at crucial intervals to derail the chase.
Langley were eventually bowled out for 280, falling 63 runs short. Every Phoenix bowler chipped in with wickets, and the fielders were equally sharp, with excellent catches taken by Faaris, Hardik, Khizar, Dev, Vishal, and a stunning diving effort from debutant Harshil. Harshil’s debut performance was particularly noteworthy, highlighting the depth and talent within the Phoenix ranks.
Rajkaran was deservedly named Player of the Match for his record-breaking innings that laid the foundation for Phoenix’s victory. This win marks Phoenix's fifth consecutive victory, a testament to their growing confidence and team spirit.
In the end, it was a brilliant game of cricket, with both teams showing tremendous skill and determination. Phoenix, however, proved tougher in the decisive moments, extending their winning streak in emphatic style. As they say, when the going gets tough, the tough get going—Phoenix are certainly on the march.
