Phoenix Cricket Club Lost 37 runs

Match report Game 24 v Windsor Cricket Club!

Lost by 37 runs.

In a hard-fought match, Phoenix suffered a 37-run defeat to Windsor, leaving both teams with one win apiece this season. Windsor's sharp fielding and Phoenix's dropped catches were the key differences on the day.

Windsor posted 221 runs from their 40 overs, a total that seemed out of reach when Phoenix had them struggling at 91-6. However, five dropped catches – many coming off the bowling of Sheraz and Sanjeev – proved costly. The reprieved batsmen went on to score a combined 180 runs, allowing Windsor to recover. Sheraz Ahmad and Sanjeev bowled exceptionally well in tandem, with their leg-spin and off-spin keeping things tight on a batting-friendly wicket, but without luck in the field. Romil, with his lethal inswingers, was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3-30, putting Windsor under serious pressure early on.

Phoenix’s run chase never truly got off the ground, with batsmen repeatedly getting set before throwing their wickets away. Romil was the standout performer with the bat as well, playing an excellent knock of 53 off 38 balls, including seven boundaries. However, Phoenix couldn’t build a solid partnership, and the team was bowled out for 184 with 8 overs still to spare.

A significant milestone was achieved by Sanjeev, who played his 500th match for Phoenix. A true club legend, Sanjeev Kumar is now the most capped player in the club's history. Vishal also celebrated a major achievement, winning his 300th cap. Both players are vital to Phoenix, and their contributions over the years have been immense.

The day was brightened by another fantastic tea from Itmadin Vegdani’s Noor, with Chicken Biriyani and cold beers proving to be a highlight.

In the end, Windsor's superior fielding made the difference, while Romil Pandey’s all-round performance earned him the player of the match.

Final score: Windsor 221/10 (40 overs) defeated Phoenix 184/10 (32 overs) by 37 runs.
