Phoenix Cricket Club Won 3 wickets

Match report Game 2 v Chertsey

Game 2 saw Phoenix CC notch up another thrilling win—this time a gritty 3-wicket victory over a strong Chertsey side.

Losing the toss, we were put into the field, but that didn’t dampen our intensity. Mitul and Salman turned up the heat early, bowling an outstanding tandem spell—16 overs, 4 maidens, 62 runs, and 4 wickets between them. Their tight lines and intelligent variations kept Chertsey in check throughout the middle overs.

Sanjeev was equally impressive, delivering a miserly spell of 8-1-25-2 that helped pull back the scoring rate. Vishal made an immediate impact with a wicket on the very first ball of his spell, disrupting Chertsey’s momentum just as they threatened to push beyond 200. In the field, Sheraz produced a moment of magic—a sensational one-handed grab at backward square leg that stunned everyone and lifted the team.

Chertsey eventually set a competitive target, but we knew we had the depth and grit to chase it down.
The reply started solidly, and it was a Mitul-Salman masterclass that anchored our innings. Coming in under pressure after a flurry of wickets—4 down in just 11 balls—they stitched together a calm, controlled, and ultimately match-winning 88-run partnership in 16 overs. Mitul led the charge with a scintillating 62 off 62 balls, peppering the boundary 19 times and clearing it once. Salman’s 34 was a model of resilience, holding firm as the tension mounted.

There were also major milestones in the batting department. Captain Rajkaran Aulakh etched his name into Phoenix CC history, becoming the first player to cross 5,000 runs for the club—a legendary achievement. Vishal continued his strong run of form, moving into second place on the club’s all-time run-scorers list. His aggressive 33 kept the momentum alive before falling to an ambitious slog sweep.

Another brilliant all-round team effort, capped off by a clutch chase under pressure.
Mitul Bathia was deservedly named Player of the Match for his brilliant contributions with both bat and ball.

Final thoughts:
Two games, two wins, and Phoenix CC is flying high. A superb mix of individual brilliance and team cohesion is already showing. Let’s keep building momentum and push for more in Game 3!
