Phoenix Cricket Club Won 7 wickets

Match report Game 5 v Fulmer Cricket Club - win by 7 wickets

Phoenix CC returned to winning ways in Game 5 with a commanding 7-wicket victory over Fulmer, chasing down a challenging 235 with composure, aggression in 29 overs, and a sensational top-order partnership.

Captain Rajkaran Aulakh lost the toss for the fourth game in a row, and unsurprisingly, we were asked to bowl first again. Fulmer started brightly, racing to 19 off the first 2 overs, looking set for a score well beyond 250 on a flat, batting-friendly pitch.

But Phoenix struck back with intent. The moment of brilliance came early, when skipper Rajkaran pulled off one of the catches of the season—a breathtaking one-handed grab at gully, diving low and fast to his right. It was a turning point in both energy and momentum.

The true shift, however, came in the 21st and 25th overs, when Sanjeev Kumar dismissed Fulmer’s two in-form batters—shifting the tide of the innings. Fulmer’s anticipated late-innings acceleration never materialised, thanks largely to tight spells from Amjad Bhatti and Sanjeev, whose combined figures read 16-2-68-3.
Sanjeev Kumar’s performance was especially historic, as he picked up his 700th wicket for Phoenix and reached a phenomenal career total of 1,059 wickets.

Fulmer finished on 235—a strong total, but gettable if the top order delivered.

Our run chase got off to a rocky start with the early dismissal of Gurpreet Chandi. There was a flicker of hope when Vishal-Karna Kumar smashed his first ball for six, but it was short-lived—he fell to a blinder at cover.

At 43-2 in the 10th over, we needed a match-defining partnership—and that’s exactly what we got. Rajkaran Aulakh and Khizar “Kay” Hayat combined to build an electrifying 141-run stand in just 13 overs, propelling us to 184-3 by the 23rd over.

Rajkaran Aulakh was imperious, scoring 91 off 73 balls, laced with 13 fours and 2 sixes, anchoring the chase with calm authority.
Kay Hayat was equally impactful, blasting 81 off 54 balls, including 12 boundaries and a six, complementing his captain perfectly.

After Rajkaran’s dismissal, debutant Onkar Rishabh arrived with purpose, striking a quickfire 26, and fittingly hit the winning runs to cap off a memorable first appearance.

Special mention goes to club legend Fabian Saverimuttu, who came down to support the team, and to Itmadin Vegdani and Noor, who once again provided an outstanding Chicken Biryani tea, fueling the second innings surge.

Final thoughts:
This was Phoenix CC at its best - recovering from early setbacks, building partnerships, and showing the grit and skill needed to chase a tough total. The fielding still has room for improvement, but Rajkaran’s leadership, performance, and that magical catch set the tone for a dominant day. Congratulations again to Sanjeev on his monumental wicket milestones, and to Onkar on a debut to remember.
Two big milestones, one special win. On to the next!
