Phoenix Cricket Club Won 71 runs

Match report Game 6 v Langley.

Phoenix CC continued their strong early-season form with a 71-run victory over Langley CC, making it 5 wins from 6 games. The match was a tale of two halves: a batting innings full of missed opportunities—highlighted by four run outs—followed by a bowling display full of discipline, guile, and sharp fielding.

For the second time this season, Phoenix won the toss, and captain Mitul Bathia chose to bat first. On a flat track and under blue skies, it should have been a big total—but the innings faltered early and never quite recovered.
Despite four run outs, Vishal wasnt too happy to be at the receiving end of a dubious call — a recurring frustration - we managed to post 196 all out in just 35 overs, falling five overs short of our full allocation. From 115-6, the innings was rebuilt through a gutsy 62-run partnership between Chohan and Mitul.

The standout performer with the bat was Muhammad Chohan, who held the innings together with a superb 80 off 95 balls, featuring 9 fours and 3 sixes. His composure at the crease gave Phoenix something to defend.
At tea, the team was disappointed but not defeated—and instead of Itmadin Vegdani it was Mrs. Kumar’s delicious home-cooked tea gave the boys a lift ahead of what needed to be a fired-up second innings.

Langley started positively, but Phoenix kept plugging away. The fast bowling pair of Mitul Bathia (6-0-36-2) and Farhan Imlak (6-0-30-1) struck early blows, both aided by sharp glove work from Chohan, who took two catches behind the stumps.

After 12 overs, Langley were 69 for 3.

Then came the spin show.

Shantanu Rawat turned the game on its head with a devastating spell of 7.1-0-32-4, two bowled, two caught by Kay Hayat, who was safe as ever in the field. Sanjeev Kumar was equally effective, with 7-1-22-3, taking wickets via LBW, a catch by Gurpreet Singh Chandi, and another by Onkar.

Langley were bowled out for 125 in just 26.1 overs, as Phoenix’s spinners ran riot.

Shantanu Rawat deservedly took Player of the Match for his match-winning spell of spin bowling. That’s now five wins from six games—and momentum is well and truly with Phoenix CC.

Final thoughts:
Despite a poor batting finish and four unnecessary run outs, Phoenix once again showed their strength in the field and depth in the bowling. It’s a credit to the side that even when the top order faltered, the bowlers—especially the spinners—stepped up to defend a modest total with conviction.

Special mention to Sheraz Ahmad for helping Sanjeev with his bout of hayfever attacks!
