Phoenix Cricket Club Lost 88 runs

Match report Game 16 v Widmer End St Margaret’s - Lost by 88 runs!

Phoenix suffered a third straight defeat, this time by 88 runs, in a match that started brightly but unravelled after a lapse in concentration.

With the opposition pegged at 51-4 after 16 overs, the game was firmly in Phoenix’s control. But a drop in intensity allowed Widmer End St Margaret’s to recover and post a challenging 208-8 off 40 overs.

Bowling Highlights:
Player of the Match – Mitul Bathia. A superb opening spell that set the tone early: 8 overs, 1 maiden, 24 runs, 4 wickets. Sharp, accurate, and aggressive—Mitul deservedly took the honours.

He was well supported by Ginni Singh, who bowled with discipline: 8 overs, 2 maidens, 22 runs, 0 wickets

Unfortunately, the rest of the innings saw the pressure released, with loose deliveries and missed chances letting the opposition rebuild.

Batting Performance:
The chase began promisingly at 47-0 off 9 overs, but quickly descended into chaos. In the next 10 overs, Phoenix collapsed to 82-9—a staggering loss of 9 wickets for 35 runs.

Only a spirited last-wicket stand between Ginni Singh and Sanjeev Kumar (36 runs in 4 overs) added respectability to the score before Phoenix were bowled out.

Final thoughts:
This marks three consecutive defeats, and in each, Phoenix have been comprehensively beaten.
• Two weeks running, we’ve struggled to even muster 100 runs.
• Mindset and application are under scrutiny.
• Winning happens only when we earn it, not when the opposition hands it over.

Key lesson:
We must own our mistakes, accept constructive feedback from experienced voices in the team, and stop excusing our own errors while magnifying others’.

Recognise. Rethink. Rectify. That’s how we turn this around.

It’s not all doom and gloom—there’s still time to refocus and bounce back.
