Phoenix Cricket Club Won 3 wickets

Match report Game 20 v Hillingdon Manor
Result: Won by 3 wickets!

The morning of the game began with uncertainty — calls to cancel were aired after we lost two of our best batsmen the night before. But cricket is about commitment, and Raman & Vishal stepped up, cancelling their plans to support the team.

With just three recognised batsmen available, skipper Sanjeev Kumar took a brave decision — putting Hillingdon Manor into bat, trusting our bowling strength.

And the bowlers delivered brilliantly:
• Hillingdon Manor were pegged back to 27-3, then 103-5, then 174-9, before being bowled out for 204 in 35 overs.
• Ginni Dhaliwal was outstanding with 4 wickets, 2 catches, and a superb direct-hit run out of their best batsman.
• Debutant Syed Umar chipped in with a wicket.
• Shyam Pushpanath was rock solid with the gloves, giving the bowlers confidence throughout.

Given the conditions, we felt we’d kept them 40–50 runs below par.

At tea, over Itmadin’s Noor chicken biryani, the team discussed if chasing 205 was possible.
The chase started positively, but wickets kept falling. At 96-6, it looked bleak, despite Ramanjit Lall’s fine 39 (41 balls, 7 fours) setting the early tone.

But Phoenix showed fight:
• Ginni & Syed added 38 runs to steady things.
• At 134, Syed fell, but in came Ashik Khokhar, and with Ginni they stitched a match-winning 73-run partnership.
• Ashik was superb with 34 off 24 balls (6 fours).
• The star, though, was Ginni Dhaliwal — absorbing pressure, batting with maturity, and finishing unbeaten with a magnificent 83 off 96 balls (7 fours). To cap it off, he struck the winning runs to seal a famous victory.

Player of the Match:
Ginni Dhaliwal — brilliant with ball, in the field, and match-winning with the bat.

Final thoughts:
One of our best team performances of the season — built on camaraderie, belief, and determination.
Confidence in your own ability, and trust in your teammates, makes all the difference. Back to winning ways — and winning breeds belief. A proud Phoenix victory.
