Result: Lost by 9 wickets.

A tough day for Phoenix CC as we were not at the races, falling to a heavy 9-wicket defeat against Chertsey. The game was effectively decided in the first innings, where early damage left us with too much to recover.

First Innings – Phoenix Batting
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Phoenix got off to the worst possible start—slumping to 10-4 inside 6 overs. On a pitch where history favours chasing, the decision to bat first proved costly.
Amidst the collapse, one man stood tall:
• Ginni Dhaliwal produced a superb counter-attacking innings of 63 off 49 balls, striking 11 fours and a six. He showed composure under pressure and ensured Phoenix posted something on the board, eventually being bowled out for 130. However, the total always looked below par.

Second Innings – Phoenix Bowling & Fielding
With a modest total to defend, Phoenix needed early breakthroughs—but Chertsey had other plans. Their batters chased with authority, rattling off the runs and reaching the target comfortably, losing just one wicket in the process.

There were few opportunities to build pressure as the opposition dominated throughout the chase.

A standout performance under pressure, fighting hard with the bat and providing resistance when it was most needed.

Final Thoughts:
Cricket can be simple at times—scoreboard pressure matters. Falling to 10-4 put us on the back foot immediately, and from there it was always going to be an uphill battle.

History at this ground suggests: win the toss, bowl first. Today, we went against that trend—and paid the price.
A learning curve early in the season. Reset, regroup, and come back stronger.
