Frimley v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sun 19 Jul 2026 at 1pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Lost 86 runs

Match report Game 14 v Frimley
Result: Lost by 86 runs

It was a case of déjà vu for Phoenix as another difficult afternoon unfolded, echoing the defeat to The Journey Men a few weeks earlier.

On a hot day and on a surface offering plenty for the batters, Frimley won the toss and made the obvious decision to bat first. Phoenix responded superbly in the opening exchanges, bowling with discipline and purpose to reduce the hosts to 62-3 after 18 overs at the drinks interval. At that stage, the game was firmly in the balance.

However, the momentum gradually shifted. The final 17 overs yielded 106 runs, with Phoenix unable to maintain the pressure. The death bowling and fielding fell below the standards the team has set this season, allowing Frimley to recover strongly and post a competitive total.

There were still encouraging bowling performances. Adnan Wadood was outstanding early on, finishing with figures of 4-1-8-3, while Sanjeev Kumar, introduced later into the attack, delivered another controlled spell of 7-0-31-2. Unfortunately, the final six overs proved decisive, with three of those overs conceding 31 runs, giving Frimley the platform they needed.

At tea, the message was simple—build partnerships and bat with patience.

Sadly, the chase never truly got going.

Phoenix collapsed to 23-5 after just 9 overs, leaving the middle order with an uphill task. Any hopes of a recovery disappeared when three wickets fell in a single over, effectively ending the contest as Frimley completed an 86-run victory.

Despite the result, it was pleasing to welcome Rana Mohit, Satinder Dhillon, and Sukhwinder Singh for their Phoenix debuts.

Player of the Match: Salman Merchant
A performance that embodied commitment and resilience. Whether with bat, ball or in the field, Salman refused to let his intensity drop and continued to fight until the very end. His determination and selfless attitude reflected everything Phoenix strives to represent.

Final Thoughts:
Cricket is as much about decision-making as it is about skill.

Expectations and experience matter. Success comes from combining attitude with aptitude, trusting the game plan, listening to advice, and making the right decisions under pressure. Those are qualities Phoenix has demonstrated many times before, but on this occasion they were missing during the game’s defining moments.
The important thing now is to learn, regroup and return stronger next week.
