Phoenix Cricket Club Won 8 runs
Match report
Game 26 v Prestcold!
An exciting 8 run win as we defended 195. The opposition needed 18 of the last over to win, with the second ball being hit for a six but we held over nerve and Sreekanth Surendran took the winning catch.
We started well with Rajkaran Aulakh, Jay Sankar, Vishal and Muhammed Chohan all scoring runs but we then collapsed as we went from 160-3 to 180-9 in just 3.4 overs. We were below our target as we thought 210 would be a par score.
A scrumptious tea provided by Mrs Kumar was devoured by the boys and they knew they needed an equally excellent performance on the field if victory was to be theirs.
After a slow start, Jibin made the breakthrough but Prestcold were still were on top as they kept on scoring consistently and above all had wickets in hand.
Gurwinder Bajwa and Vishal Ambersriya bowled with pace and accuracy as they stemmed the scoring but the panic button was pressed after Vishal took a superb catch at gully of Abdul. Rajkaran, Jay, Vishal and Chohan all took catches and Jibin joined the dismissal with a run out.
With 4 overs to go, Prestcold needed 28 runs to win with 6 wickets in hand. Anand Pimple then produced a brilliant spell of death bowling as his final 2 overs just went for 4 runs plus the wicket of the opponents best batsman. Anand finished with figures of 8-1-17-1.
With 18 runs to win the final over was bowled by Rajkaran and he just needed to hold his nerve. When the second ball went for 6 then Prestcold needed 11 of 4. Rajkaran held his nerve and Sreekanth was the calmest player on the pitch as he took a well judged skier in the deep to win the game.
The 15 run partnership for the 10th wicket between Abdul and Anand proved to be match winning. A superb team performance and Sanjeev Kumar contribution from the sideline proved effective as you can’t ignore his experience.
MOTM is Anand.
