Frimley v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sun 20 Aug 2023 at 12.30pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Won 15 runs
Match report
Game 28 v Frimley Cricket Club!
A superb 16 run victory as we defended 221 in a hard fought match which ended up being to nervous for comfort.
Rajkaran Aulakh and Jay Sankar hit 104 for the opening partnership in 18.1 overs with Rajkaran making 55 off 63 balls which included 9 fours and Jay making 88 off 92 balls which included 9 fours and a six. Also its all about partnerships at the right time, Bob and Abdul put on 11 for the 7th wicket in the final 2.5 overs which proved to be crucial at the end.
At tea as we enjoyed the food and beers in the sun, the boys knew that we just needed to bowl well and take quick wickets to see us home.
Debasish Nanda and Muhammad Chohan did just that as they took two quick wickets with catches from both Jay and Khizar.
Then the carnage happened when the opponent’s batsman to a liking to both Abdul and Romy as be smashed 50 in 2 overs.
Sagar Antil was brilliant with the ball as his figures of 8-0-24-2 during the onslaught was game changing. He took both the inform batsmen caught & bowled as swayed the match to our favour.
Abdul and Romy Sharma redeemed themselves as they combined to take 4-31 in the next 13 overs.
Vishal-Karna requested the final over as he had to defend 26 but with 2 wides and 4 no balls the opponents looked hopeful. 20 off 5 was the equation but Vishal held his nerve as he just conceded 5 off the final 5 balls.
No ball, wide, three, two, single, dot ball and an attempt to mankading - the last over was action-packed.
Another superb team performance and yet again Sanjeev Kumar’s advice proved crucial as he continues to be influential from the sidelines.
Special mention to Bob Rehill for bring back yesteryear with his trademark back foot drive through cover for four and his hospitable nature for buying the boys some beers.
MOTM is Sagar.
