Phoenix Cricket Club Won 48 runs
Match report
Game 16 v Kempton Cricket Club!
Won by 48 runs.
In a high-scoring, thrilling encounter with the Euro final playing in the background, Phoenix emerged victorious over their old foes Kempton by 48 runs. The rivalry between these two teams is storied, with many players having interchanged teams over the years, including the likes of Sanjeev Kumar, Jason Saverimuttu, Fabian Saverimuttu and Dave Miah. This encounter did not disappoint, showcasing top-notch cricketing skills from both sides.
**Phoenix Innings:**
Phoenix set a daunting target of 267 runs in their allotted 35 overs, thanks to stellar performances from their top order. Rajkaran Aulakh anchored the innings with a solid 61 off 68 balls, including 7 fours. His partnership with Harman Johal was the highlight of the innings. Harman Johal was in scintillating form, narrowly missing out on a century, scoring a magnificent 99 off just 72 balls, laced with 9 fours and 5 sixes. Together, they put on a brilliant 150-run stand for the second wicket in just 19 overs.
Kay Hayat contributed with a run-a-ball 28, trying to accelerate the scoring in the death overs. Vishal Singh added crucial runs towards the end, scoring a brisk 48 off 32 balls, featuring 5 fours and 2 sixes, effectively pushing the total to a competitive 267. His innings proved to be decisive, matching the eventual margin of victory.
During the innings break, the Phoenix players enjoyed a delicious Chicken Biriyani, courtesy of Itmadin Vegdani’s Noor.
**Kempton Innings:**
Kempton began their chase aggressively, maintaining a run rate of 10 runs per over after losing an early wicket. However, the introduction of Iliyan Panjwani into the attack stemmed the flow of runs as he picked up two crucial wickets of quick-scoring batsmen.
Sanjeev then took charge with his usual tight bowling, controlling the game’s tempo. The Phoenix bowlers worked cohesively, with every bowler contributing to the wicket column. Amjad provided a key breakthrough, Vishal Ambersriya claimed the scalp of Kempton’s big hitter, and Ashik celebrated his first wicket for the club. Rajkaran capped off his excellent all-round performance by taking two wickets in the final over.
However, the standout performer was Harman Johal, who complemented his batting heroics with a record-breaking fielding display, taking five catches— a club record.
Kempton's chase ended at 219, falling short of the target by 48 runs, as Phoenix secured a well-deserved victory.
**Player of the Match:**
Harman Johal was rightly named Player of the Match for his outstanding all-round performance, scoring a near-century and setting a club record with his exceptional fielding.
This victory not only underscored Phoenix's dominance but also highlighted the enduring spirit of competition and camaraderie between the two sides. As the Phoenix players celebrated, it truly felt like a moment of "It's coming home."
