Wealdstone Corinthians v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sun 21 Jul 2024 at 12.30pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Won 5 wickets
Match report
Game 17 v Wealdstone Corinthians!
Playing Wealdstone Corinthians for the first time was a wonderful experience and contest, with Phoenix securing a victory by 5 wickets.
Wealdstone Corinthians won the toss and elected to bat first. Despite a good start on a tricky pitch, Phoenix's disciplined bowling contained the run rate effectively. The pressure mounted, leading Wealdstone Corinthians to lose wickets in their attempt to accelerate, ultimately posting a total of 132 runs off their allotted 40 overs.
Phoenix bowlers displayed impressive performances: Mitul (8-2-22-2), Farhan on debut (8-2-33-2), Sanjeev (8-1-19-1), and Shantanu (8-1-25-1) were particularly dominant.
During the innings break, Chicken Biriyani, served by Itmadin’s Noor, was a highlight, with Chohan even placing his own takeaway order due to its tastiness.
Phoenix's chase began with the knowledge that a solid start was crucial to navigating the challenging pitch. Openers Rajkaran and Chohan delivered, scoring 47 runs in the first 8 overs before Rajkaran was dismissed for 25. The next two overs were tense, as Phoenix lost two key batsmen for ducks. However, Chohan and Rocky stabilized the innings, with Rocky contributing a steady 36 and Chohan scoring a commanding 53 off 52 balls, including 5 fours and 2 sixes.
A late collapse saw Phoenix lose 3 wickets for just 6 runs, causing some nerves. Shantanu's two fours eased the pressure, and Itmadin sealed the win by hitting the winning runs.
Player of the Match honours went to Shantanu Rawat for his all-round performance, which included taking wickets, a catch, a run-out, and crucial runs.
A special mention to Wealdstone Corinthians for being exceptional hosts, playing with friendly banter, and displaying great sportsmanship.
