Result: lost by 3 wickets

On a glorious but extremely hot day, Phoenix won the toss and elected to bat first. In difficult conditions, the batting unit produced a strong total of 243 off 40 overs, built around an outstanding partnership between Muhammad Chohan and Salman Merchant.

After a steady start, the pair came together and completely rebuilt the innings with a magnificent 141-run partnership for the 4th wicket, equalling the club’s 4th wicket partnership record set by Rajkaran Aulakh & Harjit Dhillon vs Bagshot in 2021.

The stand consisted of:
• Muhammad Chohan: 74 runs
• Salman Merchant: 47 runs
• Extras: 20
• Partnership lasting 23.4 overs

Chohan went on to produce a superb century, scoring 100 off 107 balls, striking 9 fours and 2 sixes in an innings filled with composure and class.

Salman provided the perfect support role with a patient and intelligent 50 off 81 balls, including 2 fours and a six.

At the halfway stage, Phoenix knew bowling with aggression and fielding with intensity would be key to defending the total.

Unfortunately, the game slipped away in a tight contest where missed opportunities proved costly.

7 dropped catches severely hurt Phoenix’s chances, with the defining moment coming early in the chase when Fulmer’s key batter Raza was dropped on just 16. He eventually went on to add another 210 runs worth of damage before finally being dismissed by the excellent Viyan Kashyap. By then, Fulmer only required 18 more runs with wickets and overs still in hand.

Viyan impressed tremendously with genuine pace, taking the early breakthrough as well as the crucial wicket of Raza. A hugely promising performance from the young bowler.

Sanjeev Kumar once again delivered a controlled spell, continuing his strong season and taking his tally to 11 wickets so far.

Salman Merchant bowled economically and built pressure, though perhaps could have been introduced earlier to operate in tandem with Sanjeev during the key middle overs.

Adding to the frustration was the concession of 41 extras, which proved costly in such a close finish.

A superb century under pressure and the backbone of Phoenix’s innings.

Final Thoughts:
Keep heads up when the pressure rises. Cricket can turn quickly, and maintaining focus ball by ball is what ultimately decides tight games. Learn, regroup, and move onto the next one stronger.
