Phoenix Cricket Club Won 7 wickets

Match report Game 7 v Stoke Green
Result: won by 7 wickets

A superb chase under pressure saw Phoenix secure an excellent 3 wicket victory over Stoke Green in a game that showcased character, composure and team spirit.
Captain Muhammad Chohan lost the toss and Stoke Green elected to bat first on a good batting surface. Early on, Phoenix were completely on top.

Opi Singh and Ginni Dhaliwal set the tone with an outstanding opening spell, bowling with aggression and discipline to put Stoke Green immediately under pressure. Both bowlers picked up two wickets apiece while keeping the scoring rate under control.
Phoenix had the opposition looking in real trouble inside the opening 10–15 overs, with a total under 100 appearing likely.

Ginni struck in his opening spell, while Chohan took an excellent catch in the slips to dismiss the opener. Opi bowled with genuine intensity and hostility, unsettling the batters throughout his spell.
However, Stoke Green’s captain and number four batter fought back brilliantly with a century partnership that shifted momentum back towards the hosts. During that stand came a moment that summed up the spirit of the game. The batter was initially given run out by the leg umpire, but after it was realised the stumps had been disturbed before the ball hit, Chohan called the batter back despite him already walking off. At the time, he had scored less than 10 runs.

Eventually, the crucial breakthrough came through a sharp piece of fielding from Itmadin Vegdani, whose direct throw at the keeper’s end ended the dangerous stand with a vital run out.

As the innings entered the death overs, Stoke Green threatened a total around 250, especially with their lower order accelerating aggressively. But Phoenix held their nerve with tighter bowling and fielding.

Additional catches from Adnan Wadood and Chohan helped maintain pressure.

Stoke Green eventually closed on 229, a competitive but chaseable total.

Phoenix began positively in reply through Muhammad Chohan and Gurpreet Chandi, but after Chandi fell early the pressure increased.

What followed was the match-defining partnership.

Muhammad Chohan and Khizar Hayat rebuilt the innings magnificently with a superb 157-run stand for the 2nd wicket over 23 overs.

The partnership consisted of:
• Muhammad Chohan: 66 runs
• Khizar Hayat: 64 runs
• Extras: 27
• Partnership lasting 23 overs

Chohan once again showcased his class with a magnificent 100 off 105 balls, striking 10 fours in a composed innings filled with maturity and leadership. It was his third century of the season and back-to-back hundreds.

Khizar played the perfect supporting role, scoring a patient and intelligent 64 off 72 balls, including 7 fours. His calm presence ensured the chase never drifted away.

Khizar was unfortunate to be adjudged LBW to a ball that appeared to pitch outside leg, while Itmadin also departed shortly after. With Phoenix sensing nerves and Stoke Green pushing for a comeback, Chohan retired after reaching his century to encourage others to finish the chase.

In a strong leadership moment, Chohan specifically brought Sheraz into the middle to build his confidence with only a handful of runs remaining.

Then came the final flourish. Ginni Dhaliwal smashed four boundaries in a single over to emphatically finish the game and seal victory in the 36th over.

Special mention also to Sheraz Ahmad, who despite battling confidence and anxiety, continued to contribute positively to the team effort.

Player of the Match: Muhammad Chohan
A superb century under pressure and the backbone of Phoenix’s successful chase.

Final Thoughts:
When everyone contributes, Phoenix become a very dangerous side. Confidence breeds success, and every player has a role to play — whether through runs, wickets, fielding or simply supporting teammates in difficult moments.
This victory showcased skill, spirit, resilience and sportsmanship — everything Sunday cricket should represent.
