Phoenix Cricket Club Won 3 wickets

Match report Game 13 v Stoke Green
Result: Won by 3 wickets

When the original fixture against Gentlemen of West London was cancelled, a replacement was quickly arranged against Stoke Green—an opponent Phoenix had already overcome earlier in the season.

It wasn’t just another friendly. With Phoenix captain Muhammad Chohan playing league cricket for Stoke Green on Saturdays, there was plenty of friendly rivalry and pride at stake. Stoke Green arrived determined to avenge their earlier defeat, making this feel much more than just a replacement fixture.

Winning the toss, Stoke Green chose to bat first and made an imposing 269 from their 40 overs.

Despite the score, Phoenix fought hard with the ball. Adnan Wadood was outstanding, returning figures of 8-0-38-2, the only bowler to concede fewer than five runs an over. His control and discipline ensured the innings never completely ran away from Phoenix.

There were opportunities to restrict the total further. Several catches went down, two stumpings were missed, two wickets fell to no-balls, and a number of misfields gifted valuable runs. Opi’s outstanding athleticism produced a brilliant run out, while Mitul claimed an early wicket with a trademark inswinger. After drinks, Phoenix slowed the scoring rate considerably, but the lapses in the field ultimately allowed Stoke Green to post a challenging total.

At tea, the message was simple: back the batting, stay positive and don’t panic.

Phoenix could hardly have asked for a better start.

Muhammad Chohan and debutant Sarabjit Singh produced a magnificent 143-run opening partnership in just 14.2 overs, immediately putting Stoke Green under pressure. The partnership consisted of:
• Sarabjit Singh: 72 runs
• Muhammad Chohan: 49 runs
• Extras: 22 runs

Sarabjit announced himself in style, smashing 72 from just 47 balls, including 11 fours and a six, while Chohan continued his outstanding season with a classy 70 from 56 deliveries, striking 8 fours and a six.

At 183-1, Phoenix looked to be cruising.

Then came the twist.

Stoke Green sensed an opening. Energy levels lifted, every appeal became louder, and wickets began falling at regular intervals. Phoenix slipped from 183-1 to 208-5, and what had looked a comfortable chase suddenly became tense.

Khizar battled hard to keep the innings together before falling under pressure, while Kishan and Zeya departed cheaply. The game had swung.

Then came the innings that changed everything.

Adnan Wadood walked in and immediately counter-attacked, playing with freedom and confidence. His superb 27 from just 19 balls, including four boundaries, transformed the chase and swung the momentum back towards Phoenix.

Alongside him, Salman Merchant displayed exactly the composure required in a pressure situation, rotating the strike brilliantly and ensuring the scoreboard never stood still.

With only a handful still required, Ashik Khokhar arrived at the crease. After assessing the conditions, he backed himself, launching two consecutive boundaries to complete a thrilling victory with three overs remaining.

A chase that had threatened to unravel was finished with authority.

It wasn’t perfect—but it showed resilience, belief and composure when it mattered most.

Debut for Sarabjit Singh and Kishan Patel.

Player of the Match: Adnan Wadood
A genuine all-round match-winning display. Outstanding figures of 8-0-38-2 with the ball, followed by a fearless 27 from 19 balls that completely shifted the momentum of the chase.

Final Thoughts:
This wasn’t our tidiest performance. Fielding remains an area requiring significant improvement, with dropped catches, missed opportunities and lapses in concentration making life harder than it needed to be.
But what this team continues to show is resilience.

When the pressure arrived, nobody panicked. Players trusted each other, stuck to the plan and found different ways to contribute.

Sometimes winning beautifully teaches you little.

Winning when things aren’t perfect reminds you what good teams are made of.

Record so far:
8 Wins | 4 Losses | 1 Draw
