Phoenix Cricket Club - Southend-On-Sea 2012

Southend 2012

The origins of Southend date back to the 7th Century, where a priory once stood in Prittlewell.

In 1760 Southend  consisted of a few poor fishermens huts and a settlement of Farms, but because it lay at the southern extremity of the lands of prittlewell priory, it was called South End. The earliest settlement was farmed by Tenants of the Priory, the principal of these was called Facons. Facons in french means 'Ways' and Phoenix have many ways to settledown with food, women, wine and song.

Economic depression with the start of the Napoleonic War, the poor reputation of the Essex coast for health, difficult access from London by Road and River and competition from old Southend may all have contributed to “New Southends “failure. The Napoleonic Wars (1803–1815) were a series of wars between Napoleon's French Empire and opposing coalitions. As a continuation of the wars sparked by the French Revolution of 1789, they revolutionised European armies and played out on an unprecedented scale, mainly owing to the application of modern mass conscription. French power rose quickly as Napoleon's armies conquered much of Europe but collapsed rapidly after France's disastrous invasion of Russia in 1812. Napoleon's empire ultimately suffered complete military defeat resulting in the restoration of the Bourbon monarchy in France and the creation of the Concert of Europe.

There are such things as Phoenix Wars but there are Phoenix war stories from the battles the players had over the ages - the true greats of these stories are Jason and Kully. So if you suffer from insomnia or even amnesia then we may be able to help you sleep or forget may the case be.

Phoenix's Tour Highlights

BattingLav's maiden century and Alex's back to back fifties

Phoenix on tour are a team full of laughter and comedy. To quote Mark Twain (American Humorist, Writer and Lecturer. 1835-1910), " Humor is the great thing, the saving thing. The minute it crops up, all our irritation and resentments slip away, and a sunny spirit takes their place."

So another tour came & passed and yet again Phoenix showed their true colours and infected everyone involved with laughter, spirit and the sense of being a family.
