Ashford v Phoenix Cricket Club Phoenix on Sun 12 Jul 2015 at 1pm
Phoenix Cricket Club Won 121 runs
Match report
Beat Ashford by 121 runs. A local derby ensued with a difficult wicket to get going on and you were a walking wicket regardless how many balls you have faced or how many runs you have scored. Ashford opted for Phoenix to bat first and at 30 for 3 we thought we were being 'stiched up' by our opponents but a bit of experience and a bit of youthful exuberance managed to get to 191 even though we were bowled out with five overs to spare.
Vipen top scored with 47 which included 6 fours & 2 fours but was out on the boundary at deep sqaure leg going for yet another six to mark his fifty. He was accompanied by Sethi who made 29 and babbu who made 31 as they kept the scoreboard ticking over and final blast by Gurdeep of 32 from 25 balls (which included 6 fours) took us to a decent score.
At tea, the clouds were getting darker and rain was coming in from a distant horizon. Before the heavens opened and rain caused a draw, the Phoenix bowlers were on fire and bowled the opposition out with plenty of time to spare. Farhan used his inswing to collect 4 wickets, Sakhil maintained his pace & discipline for the 1 wicket, Sanj extracted turned & bounce for his 2 wickets and Mannu bowled with aggression to collect 3. A job well done and lots of time to spend in the bar after was reward.
Lets sing the 'Bartender Song (Sittin' At A Bar)1 song by REHAB : "Bartender I really did it this time Broke my parole to have a good time!"
Statistically the leading players this season are as follow:
Kully - 551 runs
Prince - 433 runs
